Start a water reuse project at your fire station

Learners could work with their city representatives to incorporate a water harvesting and reuse system at one of their fire stations.  This project includes constructing a rainwater collection system around the structure, and installing native landscaping features on the property with fast growing annual grasses to stabilize the soil and help prevent weed infestation.  The project could promote and demonstrate water conservation, reduce the city’s maintenance costs and dependence on ground water, and provide a pollinator-friendly habitat.
