What if learners could discover what it means to spend their money locally, rather than online? Maybe they could meet the owners and realize that these people are our neighbors who make a living providing their service and products for the community. These are real people looking to generate true patrons of their service, and not anonymous consumers. Could your learners develop empathy for the local business owner, and become loyal based on genuine connection? What if your learners realized that when people stop shopping locally and businesses close down, the people who owned and worked there are their neighbors and friends? Would this project change their mindset? This project could be a great book, an insightful documentary, and lends itself to a whole host of other storytelling mediums—and a story that needs to be told.
