Discover local and organic food sources at a co-op

Are your learners aware of food co-ops and how they might be different than the mega grocery stores?  Organizations like Lakewinds Food Co-op partner with local businesses who care about their communities and drive environmental and social responsibility.  Learners could develop a project to help support a similar mission in their community.  For instance, Lakewinds partners with organizations like Superior Fresh to bring leafy greens, Atlantic Salmon, and Steelhead fish from their massive aquaponics facility located in the middle of Wisconsin!  Learners could travel up and down the value chain as they discover how they can create or contribute to projects like TC Food Justice or market gardens like Urban Roots.  These organizations are serving small pockets of our population, and learners could multiply the impact by creating similar projects for “their world.”
